Plans for a two-storey extension for a listed home at Sunnybank, Bridport has been withdrawn.

No reason has been given for the decision, which was notified by Dorset Council on Tuesday June 16.

The application had won the support of Bridport Town Council, subject to the comments of neighbours, but at the close of the time for public comments none had been made.

The planning application included the demolition of a ground floor lean-to extension at No 6 and a new two storey extension on the south side of the property.

The cottage is an end of terrace, part of a row of six, and is a grade 2 listed stone for its special architectural and historic interest and within the Bridport Conservation Area.

An agent’s report to Dorset Council says of the proposal: “The extension has been sensitively designed in such a way as to sit quietly next to the terrace of historic cottages, with a lower roofline, simple, traditional fenestration and local timber cladding for the elevations. The scale and design of the extension is such that the hierarchy and rhythm of the terrace of cottages will be maintained.”

Other changes planned include returning the internal staircase to its original position which would have allowed a more useable family space, according to the application papers, and the existing bathroom to be re-configured to create a shower room.
