Hair salons and barber shops have been told they can reopen from next month - but the news has been met with mixed reaction.

One Charmouth salon has a waiting list 400 strong but says it's tricky to book anyone in yet because there hasn't been any guidance.

Louise Thresher, owner of The Salon, said: "It's great news for our industry. There's a bit of mixed feelings as we've been told we can open but we haven't actually been given any guidelines yet. It's tricky because we're desperate to get our clients booked in, we've currently got over 400 people on our waiting list, but it's very difficult to start booking people in without the guidelines in place.

"We just want to get on with it and we need to know exactly what we need to do.

"We're pretty well-prepared so I'm hoping what we have in place already is going to be ok.

"We won't actually open until the 6th as we need to get all the staff in for training and make sure everyone knows exactly what they're doing and are fully prepared to open."

Steve Wheeler, owner of Steve's Barber Shop in Bridport, says it's 'great' news.

"Obviously it's going to be different," he said. "We're expecting to have to wear masks and to only have three people in the shop at a time."We're really happy with the announcement, there's only so much cleaning and gardening you can do.

"It's going to be a different but it will be good to get back.

"We're only doing walk-ins but people seem pretty happy with that. We've had loads of customers calling up and when they find out we're not making bookings they say "great", they want somewhere they can just walk in and get a haircut."
