Amongst all the trials and stresses of the lockdown, one pleasant feature has been the sharp reduction in the amount of traffic.

More people are choosing to make local trips on foot or by bike and this has the effect of improving air quality, helping to combat climate change, and making our town a more pleasant place.

I for one would like to see steps taken to ensure a continued reduction in traffic as the lockdown eases.

With markets to be permitted again, perhaps a useful experiment would be to close the upper part of South Street on market days. This would also make it easier for people to socially distance while perusing the various market stalls.
