An elderly man has been taken to hospital after falling below deck on a boat.

While out on patrol of the island, Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team joined the South Western Ambulance Service yesterday (Saturday) just after 1.45pm to help an elderly man. He had felt dizzy and fallen below deck on a boat in Portland Marina.

A spokesman for Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team said: "The gentleman was checked over, given casualty care and monitored until an ambulance was available.

"Once SWAST was on scene he was assessed by paramedics who decided it would be best for the gentleman to be taken to Dorset County Hospital for a full check up.

"The gentleman was then recovered back to the top deck by the team and along the pontoons to the awaiting ambulance. The team then returned to their patrol.

"We wish the gentleman a full recovery."
