COMMUNITY care provider Agincare has donated more than £6,500 to the Care Workers' Charity after a year of fundraising, including a bake-off on Portland.

With more than 3,500 care staff, the care provider came up with a range of ways to raise the £6,613.75 for the Care Workers' Charity, which supports current and former care workers with one-off crisis grants and online information and advice.

The South West live-in care team completed the Dorset Adventure Park Mud Trail and one carer from the Poole home care team jumped out of a plane to do a skydive.

Other fundraising events included a bake-off at Agincare's Portland headquarters, cake sales, Mad Hatter's Day fancy dress competitions and coffee mornings.

Adam Luckhurst, Agincare’s sales and marketing director, said: "Raising over £6.5k is a great achievement by the company. The efforts of everyone have been excellent, and I know there’s been lots of fun had as well.

"The team has done all sorts: mud runs, cake sales, rough sleeping, raffles, bake-offs, silly hat competitions and loads of other things.

"My brothers and I were planning to run the Weymouth Half Marathon in March, but we’ll now run in September. Despite lockdown, training is still going strong – sort of!"

He added: "Karolina Gerlich and the team at the Care Workers’ Charity work so hard to make sure past and present care workers are supported in their time of need, so as a company and board of directors we really wanted to help. We’re so pleased to finally present them with a cheque.

"Whether you were involved in organising an event or making a donation, all we can say is a huge ‘thank you’."

The Care Workers' Charity has set up a coronavirus care workers' emergency fund to provide emergency financial aid to care workers who are self-isolating.
