The demolition of an existing bungalow at Penfold, Icen Lane, replacing it with a new house has been agreed by Dorset Council.
The consent includes an extension to an existing carport and stable block in Shipton Gorge.
The new home will be two-storey although planning officers were told that, in places, it would look more like a chalet bungalow. The original proposal was changed and re-submitted after comments from the council’s conservation officer about cladding, render and a large glazed area.
Shipton Gorge Parish Council said the application was fully supported and although the redevelopment is larger and of a higher profile, and in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, all the councillors at the meeting felt it enhanced the plot.
