A woman from Portesham is selling t-shirts to raise money for the Dorset County Hospital Chemotherapy Unit.

Holly Bendall, 26, has used her skills as a freelance designer to design t-shirts which are being sold online.

Some 50% of the profits Holly makes from the t-shirts will be given to the chemotherapy unit, a place that she has spent a lot of time.

Holly said: "My mum got diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of last year so we spent most of the year in the chemotherapy ward at Dorset County Hospital.

"The staff there are absolutely amazing but I fear that with the current COVID-19 crisis, cancer patients might be getting overlooked.

"I wanted to do give something back."

Holly designed the t-shirts with the slogan 'Good people do things for other people', which is a phrase that means a lot to Holly and her family.

She said: "The phrase is based off an ancient Greek proverb and it really resonated with me because the nurses at the hospital are such good people and they spend all of their time caring for and curing others.

"It is also a reminder for people to recognise that everyone has their own problems and if people were kinder to each other then it would go a long way."

Holly studied sustainable product design so has been focused on ensuring that the t-shirts are made from organic cotton and are ethically produced.

So far, she has sold 30 t-shirts and raised £150 for the Dorset County Hospital Chemotherapy Unit. Holly is hoping that she will sell 50 by the end of the limited edition campaign, which ends on 22 April.

She added: "It is amazing that people have been so generous at a time where there is little job security and so much uncertainty in the future.

"It really shows the good in people and it has made my mum so happy."

Holly is hoping that the money raised will be spent on making the chemotherapy ward a more comforting place for patients to be.

T-shirts can be purchased on Holly's justgiving page which can be accessed via the link https://everpress.com/campaign/good-people-2.
