One of west Dorset’s most popular events has been called off.

Buckham Fair organisers have said that, due to unforeseen circumstances, they've postponed any future Buckham Fair events indefinitely.

In a statement, the Buckham Fair committee said: "We thank you all for your unwavering support over the many years. We wish you all well during these difficult times and hope to see you again one day."

The vintage fair, held in Beaminster, last took place in 2018 when it celebrated its 10th anniversary.

At the time, organisers said that after 10 ‘glorious’ years they had decided to take a break and re-group.

It was to allow the land to recover and to ‘give neighbours and the good people of Beaminster a break from the incredible patience they have shown over the past decade,’ they said at the time.

Last November, the committee said the event would return in 2021.

At the time, it said: "Since day one, Buckham Fair has grown into a rich, vibrant event. With the culmination of a fantastic tenth year, we will be bringing Buckham Fair back in 2021with a fresh approach.

“To that end, the committee will be using 2020 to plan for a revised, fresh, exciting event and we look forward to having you join us in Beaminster in 2021 again."

But the fair, hosted by Martin Clunes and his wife Philippa, will not go ahead.

To date, Buckham Fair has raised more than £600,000 for local charities and causes.

The last event broke all records when it raised a staggering £111k for the Dorset County Hospital Charity Appeal.
