Lyme Regis cemetery has been re-opened for residents to visit graves.
Lyme Regis Town Council had previously announced the temporary closure of the Charmouth Road cemetery in a post on its website, which said: “The Charmouth Road cemetery will be closed until further notice following the introduction of The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020.
“Burials will continue to take place but with restrictions in place, but it will not be possible to visit graves, drive into or walk through the cemetery.
“Further advice has been issued by Dorset Council, which said as other publicly accessible areas are closed, it would be consistent with all the other Covid-related legislation to close non-essential areas, including burial grounds, to the public.”
However, the council has made a u-turn and a spokesman said: "Following the issuing of further guidance, we have re-opened the cemetery to allow people to visit graves.
"Access is only via the main vehicle and pedestrian entrance at Charmouth Road - the King's Way and Elizabeth Close entrances remain closed as the cemetery cannot be used as a public thoroughfare."
