THOUSANDS of homes are without power due to a power cut.

It is estimated around 14,100 households across Weymouth and Abbotsbury were affected, with power being restored around 4.34pm.

A further power cut is affecting around 20 homes in Dorchester are currently affected by a second power cut, which is due to be resolved around 7pm.

Engergy supplier SSE has said the issue has been caused by a fault.

A SSE spokesman said: "We’re sorry for the loss of supply.

"Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can."

Meanwhile, traffic lights in Weymouth town centre are not working as a result of the outage.

A spokesman for Dorset Council, the Highways authority, said: "We have reported this issue and a team from Dorset Highways will be on site to get the lights up and running again, power outage allowing.

"We are aware of the problem, have asked SSE for an update and will do our best to fix it asap."
