COASTGUARDS were alerted yesterday after items of clothing were found on a beach with no one in sight.
A spokesman for Wyke Coastguard Rescue Team said: "The team was tasked to reports of items of clothing on the south west coast path and beach. These were reported to be near the Riviera Hotel, Bowleaze, just after 15:00.
"Items of clothing were located above the beach close to the path.
"Searches were made of the surrounding area and the beach from Bowleaze to Redcliff Point.
"Nothing further was located during this time and with no further information the team was stood down to return to station.
"The items of clothing seen on the beach most likely belonged to an open water swimmer who we spoke to as he returned to his vehicle.
"Please help us stay safe and stay at home."
