HIGH winds have created a sand dune spectacle on Weymouth Beach.

Resident Martin Figg said he was walking on the Esplanade when he captured these unusual shots of the famous golden sands sculpted into ridges by the force of nature.

Said Mr Figg, "There were fantastic high winds over the weekend - we've had no rain for ages and the wind just piled all those sand dunes up against the Esplanade wall.

"I was walking past and thought 'my goodness look at that', so I took some quick pictures on my phone.

"It was the way the light was catching the sand dunes - I thought they were great."

Mr Figg lives just across from the beach and said he spotted the unusual phenomenon whilst on his way to buy a copy of the Echo from nearby Toucies Newsagent on the Esplanade.

He added: "I've lived in central Weymouth for about ten years and it's the first time I've seen anything like it.

"The wind usually blows the sand up onto the Esplanade and it ends up in the town - the council has been out doing its best trying to clean it away."
