A planning application has now been submitted to convert a Gore Cross business unit into the new 2020 Skate and Ride skate park.

An application has been made to Dorset Council to change the use of unit 2A, from a general industrial unit, to a skate park.

The application for the Corbin Way unit has been made in the name of Bridport Town Council clerk Will Austin and is now open for public comment until April 19.

It says that the 200 square metre unit last had permission for use as a car workshop.

No changes are proposed to the existing six parking spaces or the outside of the building and recycling bins will be put in place for skate park users.

Two staff will be employed with Monday to Sunday opening times 9am until 10pm, including bank holidays.

The project is being led by two founders of the original Trick Factory skate park which was based at St Michael’s Trading Estate from 1999 until it closed in 2016.

A crowdfunder campaign has successfully raised more than £26,000 for the skate park.

Robert Ridge, who is leading the project with Dominic Brown, said: "Like so many we're in 'suspended animation'/'holding pattern' presently with regards to the skatepark - we were on course construction wise but due to the current situation we are held up on logistics - planning, electric lighting, sanitation, insurance etc.

"Despite most things being on hold I have been doing the odd solo visit to do small amounts of construction. Though it is a shame we won't be up and running as soon as we hoped, it will be a great event when we do and something for people to look forward to."
