A second attempt is being made to convert a former Netherbury garage into a home.

Brewing company, Palmers, has asked for the Brandon Garage in New Inn Street, just off The Square, to be converted to a two-bed home with the addition of a first floor. A kitchen and living-dining area would be created downstairs and two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, if the scheme is allowed.

One letter of objection has already been received to the application – from a neighbour, directly opposite.

He says the essential difference with the proposal is that the old garage is single storey and did not overlook his home, but the addition of a first floor, will lead to a loss of privacy.

A similar application for a two-storey building on the site, made in March 2019, was later withdrawn after planning officers said they were unhappy about some aspects of the design, including the addition of an extra floor. Questions were also raised over whether adequate effort had been made to market the property for continued commercial use.

Comments on the application can be made to Dorset Council until April 28th with a decision delegated to a planning officer.
