IT FEELS that, over the last week, visitors have finally taken heed of Government advice to stay at home to save lives. I know it feels like we are stuck at home, but it really is the case that home is where we are the most safe.

My team has been working from home for the last three weeks and all my surgeries are now by telephone. I returned to Sherborne, with the Coronavirus Bill having been passed into law, and am also working from home myself. The concept of ‘working from home’ is often perceived as a more relaxing approach to work but I don’t think we have ever worked so hard; repatriating those who have been stranded abroad, conference calls with the hospital trusts for Bridport and Dorchester, Dorset Police and Dorset Council and making sure our doctors and nurses are getting the equipment they need. We have also been helping local businesses, employees and the self-employed to access Government support, while assisting with vital services for some of the most vulnerable in our communities who have reached out to us.

However, emerging from all of this is the most amazing community spirit and support for one another. Whether you are able to help by volunteering, or you are at home and in need of help, then please visit my website for all the information you need www.chrisloder.co.uk.

Many of you have written to me expressing concerns that staying at home meant you were also incurring long-stay parking charges. Dorset Council’s announcement last week that it has suspended all car park charges during the current public health measures was much welcomed.

Finally, please take good care of yourself and your families. Especially make sure you adhere to the Government's guidance to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.
