POLICE are investigating the “unexplained death” of a woman in Newton-le-Willows.

Emergency services were called to an address on Liverpool Row at around 5.05am this morning.

Police say they are investigating the “unexplained death” of a woman in her 50s at the property.

Officers have arrested a man from Newton-le-Willows in connection with the death.

A police spokesman said: “We can confirm an investigation is underway following the unexplained death of a woman in Newton-le-Willows.

“Emergency services were called to the house on Liverpool Row at 5.05am on Sunday morning where a woman in her 50s was sadly pronounced dead.

“Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this time.

“A post-mortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death.

“A 49-year-old man from Newton-le-Willows has been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to custody for questioning."
