Owners of the detached Coach House at Uploders Place have asked to be allowed to make changes to the internal layout and to repair external render on the main house.

The consent is needed from Dorset Council because the house is a Grade 2 listed building, requiring protection from unnecessary changes.

The main building dates from the 1820s and is said to have “a Regency period character with classical proportions” with views to the river and Eggardon Hill. The more modern Coach House, to the south side of the garden, is used for ancillary accommodation and storage. The application says the owners now want to convert this for use as a private library although the changes will not alter the exterior apart from replacing a stable door at the west end with a traditional part glazed door and to replace a garage door at the centre of the north side with Regency style glazed doors and side lights.

An application says the external walls will be repaired with traditional lime based render, improving on work which has been carried out in the past.

Comments on the proposals can be made until April 10 with a decision expected to be made by a planning officer.
