LOCAL dancers are being called to action through the Lyme Bay Radio Virtual Dance Freestyle.

As dance classes throughout the area are cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak, Lyme Bay Radio plans to keep people active and engaged from the comfort of their own home.

From 9PM on Saturday, March 28, the local station will be playing a range of music including salsa, modern jive and west coast swing, and are encouraging dance enthusiasts and newcomers alike to join in through Facebook.

Lyme Bay Radio spokesperson, Sue Wheeler, said: "Dancing is a very social activity and since classes have had to stop, all these dancers all over the country need another way of getting their exercise and social interaction.

"We came up with the idea of doing a freestyle virtually and by doing it over the radio anyone anywhere in the country can get involved."

To participate simply tune in to Lyme Bay Radio from 9PM this Saturday, then share your dance moves through a Facebook live stream and encourage others to join in with the hashtag #LBRDance.

Sue added: "People are doing crazy things because they're stuck indoors and they've only been indoors for a few days.

"Hopefully this will get people dancing who would normally go out socially dancing together, it's going to get people dancing who wouldn't have ever though about doing it from home, it's going to support the local radio station and it's going to give people an activity that will keep their brains and bodies active whilst they can't go out.

"Dancing is a great way to get all of the stress out, it's really good for your physical and mental health. We're hoping for a good positive experience for everyone."
