A WAYTOWN orchard could be used as a temporary campsite during the summer when no apple picking takes place.

Strong Orchards at Pineapple Lane is asking for 14 seasonal tent pitches amongst the 15 acre orchard from May 22 until the end of August, using existing toilet and washing facilities near the farm’s cider tasting room.

The established business, which produces apple juice, cider and apple cider vinegar, trades as Dorset Nectar. It says the tents will be sited amongst the orchard during the months when there is no need for orchard management. Harvest is usually from late September to mid-December.

The application form says the site is screened by a thick, mature hedge and rows of trees, 3,000 of them being in full leaf at the time of the seasonal camping. It also says that the camping will be for adults only :”we aim to offer a most unique and peaceful experience for adult visitors to the Dorset countryside with a ‘leave no trace’ attitude,” said the application to Dorset Council.
