Terras: Goal was 'sweet' after injury nightmare, says Weymouth's Andy Robinson

Robinson eventually needed ankle surgery following a horror tackle in the 4-1 win over St Albans in October, missing over four months of action.

And the former Southampton and Bolton maestro came on for Jordan Ngalo before volleying home Ollie Harfield’s corner to secure a 2-0 victory for the Terras against promotion rivals Slough.

Speaking to Echosport, Robinson revealed scoring after his injury nightmare was the “best feeling”.

He said: “I’m really pleased. Scoring is probably the best feeling when you play.

“I’m really pleased to come on and score. To be part of a win as well was really nice.”

Expanding on his time on the sidelines, Robinson said: “It has been tough.

“I suppose, in a way, it does make it sweeter when the good times eventually come.

“I’ve had tough times before and I always believe in myself that I can come back and when I get the chance I can prove to people I can make an impact.

“I try to stay with good belief and hopefully it’s come good.

“With the injury I had, it took a while to figure out because it was such a complicated one, what was actually going wrong.

“That was the tough part, but even now it’s tough.

“People ideally want to play every minute of every game.

“I have to understand that we’ve got good players here. There’s good players playing really well, so I’m not just going to come straight back into the team.

“Now there’s that side of it where I’ve got to be patient as well. I’m constantly trying my best and hoping there’s more to come.”

Despite the current pause in league action due to the coronavirus pandemic, Robinson is hoping Weymouth will be able to build on their position of third in the Vanarama National League South.

“We have to focus on the next game, whenever with the virus that is,” Robinson insisted.

“We obviously hope to finish as high as possible and getting a home (play-off) tie would make a big difference with the fans we’ve got.”
