A NEW building at West Bay for a diving tank refill operation is being recommended for approval.
If agreed it will result in the removal of a shipping container at The Mound which has been used until now.
The site is the in the corner of a car park adjacent to the west side of the Harbourmaster’s office.
It was first given temporary permission in 2015 along with a timber fence and gate – with the container used to house a compressor and associated equipment for the recharging of air bottles used by divers.
None of the statutory consultees have objected to the proposal and Bridport Town Council says that it supports it and would welcome the re-use of original materials, although this is not being proposed.
A report to the area planning committee says: “It is considered that the proposed building would be an unobtrusive simple addition to the Bridport Harbour entrance and would preserve the character of the conservation area…It is considered that the proposal would be acceptable in relation to design, heritage, amenity, highway and flood risk.”
