The market demands more homes for people and this is a nice area for people to live. Build the houses so that more people can enjoy our area and not just a privileged few. Non deficere
The houses aren't needed locally, they won't be affordable locally and they will have a detrimental affect on local services and the environment.
The only beneficiary will be the developer. Anyone who thinks that is good has a warped outlook. Strange_But_True

Many of the new builds are still empty, there will be over 200 hundred built on the former schools, bumpers lane and that disaster of the old naval station.
many are brought by landlords who then rent them out at an inflated price which will then have to be supported by government to pay for them.
now if you want to just troll people then I would suggest a good place to do that would be the like of twitter. Red reble
On the other hand if, as you say, many new homes remain empty then even more new builds might result in lower prices. New builds don't usually result in property getting cheaper, but the exception is where there are more homes than people who want or are able to buy them, Rocksalt
Take the rabbit hutches that was built on the sports field, given to the people of Portland by the navy, for the Olympic fiasco.
In all the time that those little boxes have been occupied, I have only taken two people there. Both of them were NOT local.
I will also state, that the majority of people who I drive to the island have moved onto Portland and are not local.
So the question is. Are houses on Portland needed by local people, or are they priced to high for locals to afford? Tackleberry
