THE FIRE service is reminding people to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly.
The service advises that people test their alarms on a weekly basis to ensure they are working in the event of an emergency.
A spokesman said: "Working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms save lives. Please test yours weekly. An early warning from your alarms can make all the difference. When purchasing a smoke alarm, best practice is to have mains-powered alarms that are linked together.
"Ensure you vacuum the inside of the alarm regularly to ensure that dust is not blocking the sensor chamber. Push the button, not your luck. Stay safe everyone and look out for your elderly neighbours and family too."
