A MAN has been fined and and banned from the road for more than two years after being caught behind the wheel while disqualified from driving.

Brett Ian Perry, aged 29, admitted to driving while disqualified and without insurance at Weymouth Magistrates Court.

Perry was fined £120, ordered to pay costs of £40 and a victim surcharge of £32. He also received a 26 month disqualification from driving.

Perry was initially disqualified from driving in 2017, when he was convicted at Kingston Upon Hull Crown Court of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The sentence included a five year driving disqualification.

On January 15 of this year, a police officer in an unmarked vehicle spotted Perry, of Waverland Terrace, Gillingham driving on Tomlins Lane in the town. They followed him until the car stopped.

Officers established that he was disqualified from driving, and he admitted this in a roadside interview. As he was uninsured, the vehicle was seized.

Inspector Joe Pardey of the traffic unit, said: "Brett Perry was disqualified for a serious offence and showed a deliberate disregard of the court order imposed on him by driving on 15 January 2020.

"We will do all we can to ensure those who commit driving offences of this nature are brought before the courts."
