WEST End stars will line up for a charity football match in memory of a former player, for the tenth anniversary of his death.

A match will be played at Dorchester Football Club's Avenue Stadium at 4pm tomorrow to raise money for the Adam Stansfield Foundation.

Adam was a professional footballer, who played up front for Yeovil Town, Hereford United and Exeter City.

Following Adam’s death in 2010, his family set up the foundation in his name. The charity aims to raise awareness of bowel cancer and to promote "community participation in healthy recreation for the benefit of children and young people" by providing grants and facilities for playing football. The charity mainly operates in Devon, Herefordshire and Somerset.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of Adam's death, so a number of special events are being planned by Mike Cairncross, leader of the Yeovil Town Supporters Group.

Every year there is a charity match between the Yeovil supporters and the Exeter supporters, but this year that game will be played at Yeovil's ground, Huish Park, on Sunday, May 17.

To make the anniversary extra special, the Yeovil side will have a warm-up match in Dorchester tomorrow against a team made up of West End stars, celebrities and ex-footballers, organised by actor Jonny Purchase.

Among the star-studded line-up will be West End actors Liam Doyle and Dayle Hodge as well as ex-Eastenders actor Aaron Sidwell.

Shaun Parkin, events coordinator for the foundation and Adam's brother-in-law, joked of the event: "I think that Mike was taking the game [against the Exeter fans] very seriously this year and that's why he's wanted this warm up game.

"Hopefully it will be well attended and any donations will be gladly received.

"It's another means to an ends of keeping Adam's name in the press and raising awareness of bowel cancer in the young.

"Whenever people fundraise for us we get more followers and we can already see this going up and up and up on the way to this match."

In addition to this game, another match will be played as part of the ten-year anniversary between a Yeovil Town legends side and a south-west legends' side.
