Bridport Co-op in Sea Road North is expected to get a new look with a redecoration of the shop front, new windows and doors, new sign board and new external lighting.
Planning permission for the changes at the store have been submitted to Dorset Council for approval.
The application also includes the replacement of the existing refrigeration plant with a new one which the company claims will be quieter and more energy efficient.
