A double garage at a house in Main Road, Mosterton could be converted into a nursery for a childminding business.
The application, for Dunlop House, is to be considered by Dorset Council.
It includes a new door, internal works including new wooden trusses and insulating the ceiling as well as new windows and a new soft floor.
A letter to the council from a neighbour says that without information relating to hours of operation or the number of children which are likely to be cared for, it is difficult to judge the effect it may have on the area.
A decision is expected to be made by a planning officer with comments on the application open via the council website until March 14.
