The railway line between Weymouth and Yeovil on the route to Bristol was due to reopen today following a week of engineering work.

As reported, Network Rail engineers have spent the past week renewing a deck on a 129-year-old rail bridge which crosses a river at Yetminster.

Buses have been taking passengers between Weymouth and Yeovil due to the line closure.

Great Western Railway services were due to resume this morning.

There will be two further weekend closures on the line:

* Saturday, February 29-Sunday, March 1 – the line between Yeovil Pen Mill and Dorchester West will be closed whilst follow-up work is carried out at Yetminster river bridge

* Saturday, March 28-Sunday, March 29 – the line between Yeovil Pen Mill and Weymouth will be closed for track renewals at Chetnole and between Dorchester West and Weymouth
