ENGLAND cricketing legend Phil Tufnell will be attending a charity event in Dorset to support The Ed Kent Trust.

In November 2015, Bere Regis boy Ed Kent passed away following an asthma attack when he was just 13 years old.

In memory of his son, Ed's dad Andy set up the Ed Kent Trust, a small charity that supports young people under the age of 18 who live in Dorset.

Explaining the charity's aims, Andy said: "We award grants to help them to pursue their sporting or musical ambitions, looking particularly to help those who’ve already shown a commitment but are finding that performing ‘at the next level’ has involved an increase in expenditure because of increased training/coaching fees, new equipment or additional travelling for example."

Ed played cricket for Lytchett Minster School, Bere Regis and even reached district level when he played for South Dorset.

Andy said: "Cricket was his main sport and we were certainly aware of the troubles of kids in sport.

"When they start getting better with something, they start needing better and more expensive equipment.

"Then he started playing the drums and it's the same story, sooner or later he went through the grades and exams and it gets more and more expensive."

As Ed would have celebrated his 18th birthday earlier this month, Andy wanted to do something special to mark the occasion. That's why, on March 5, the charity will be hosting 'An Evening with Phil Tufnell'.

Andy added: "We always had it in mind to do something a bit special to mark his 18th.

"It's even more special to be doing this event with Phil Tufnell because he was a left arm spinner and so was Ed.

"To date we've supported 29 young people and awarded just short of £18,000. The work goes on and we look forward to supporting many more young people from Dorset to achieve their ambitions in sport and music.

"Thank you so much to everyone who has supported the trust during these first three years."

An Evening with Phil Tufnell will be at Hamworthy Labour Club from 7pm on Thursday, March 5.
