A DORSET Search Dogs volunteer will be taking on the ultimate challenge to raise money for the charity.

Wayne Smith and his wife Kelly will be taking part in Run To The Sea 50k on March 28.

Wayne has been volunteering with Dorset Search Dogs since April 2018 with his springer spaniel Alfie-Duck, aged three.

Due to being an 'outdoors' family, it was decided they get a dog who shares their love of the outdoors.

From this, a friend recommended volunteering with Dorset Search Dogs, from which Wayne and Alfie-Duck's volunteering adventure began.

Now, with nearly two years of training under their belts, Wayne and Alfie-Duck only have another year to go until they are fully qualified.

Wayne said: "Consistency and effort are really needed for a National Qualification."

With a rekindled passion for running and Dorset Search Dogs, Wayne is keen to make a positive impact with this upcoming, gruelling challenge.

He explained: "The money we raise is money which will go into the (Dorset Search Dogs) pot. We're looking at investing in our clothing range as well as purchasing more essential bits and pieces."

Wayne's workplace will also be match funding the amount Wayne raises, resulting in a doubled total for Dorset Search Dogs.

This sum could be significantly beneficial to the charity, especially if they are required to purchase a new radio after having one stolen.

Wayne said: "It’s a shame, certainly when it comes to the cost of replacement. It put a downer on me raising £500 which may be going towards something we had in the first place. Hopefully we will still be able to buy something additional."
