Bradfords of Bridport made a generous donation to a good cause after raising hundreds of pounds through a breakfast roll sale.

The company’s branch raised a total of £611.10 through the sales in November and December, all of which has gone to help Stepping Out cancer rehabilitation programme.

Assistant branch manager, Jo Fitzgerald, organised the event and presented the cheque with branch manager Dave Arnold.

Mr Arnold said: “It is down to the generosity of our customers and local builders that we raised so much money in two months. We are particularly pleased to support a local group providing support to local people.”

Stepping Out offers exercise and help to people who are living with and recovering from having cancer. Members of the group, including its secretary Rosemary Thorpe, came to Bradfords to receive the cheque, where they expressed their gratitude for the donation.

She said: “I can’t thank Bradfords’ customers amazing generosity enough as Stepping Out has been a life saver for me at a time when I had lost a lot of faith in my health and when I was unfit following months of cancer treatment. It helps me to feel like I am doing something to help myself stay as fit and healthy as possible and more able to face the future.”

The group is run by Jo Perfect and Richard Walsh at Bridport Leisure Centre. They said: “It is a privilege to support the people who take part in Stepping Out. The programme provides an opportunity for people who have received a diagnosis of cancer to take part in appropriate exercise as well as to make new friends.”

The Stepping Out sessions are run twice a week at Bridport Leisure Centre and are available to anyone who has received a cancer diagnosis and referred by their GP, cancer nurse or health professional.
