An employee at Bridport Leisure Centre is taking her own advice and embarking on a swimming challenge.

Kelly Heath will be taking part in Swim 22, a challenge to swim 22 miles between February 22 and May 22 in aid of Diabetes UK.

She said: “This is no mean feat as this is an average of 16 lengths a day for three months.

“I am not fit, I am 50 and I am not a great swimmer. I take the children swimming but only do a handful of lengths as I am usually supervising or playing with them.

“I have decided to take part in Swim 22 to challenge myself. Working at the leisure centre I see many success stories, people with disabilities, those living with illness and overcoming injury all getting so much from regular exercise.

“Part of my job as marketing assistant is to promote fitness and the wellness it brings. I truly believe in the huge benefits of regular exercise. However, although I do occasionally exercise, it’s not enough to make a big difference, so when I saw this challenge, I thought I should take my own advice. It won’t be easy but that’s the challenge.

“My family, just like so many others, have been affected by diabetes and I have seen the heartbreak this brings. By supporting my challenge, you will be helping to fund life-saving research and help to give care and support to those living with the condition.”
