A dog has been swept out to sea.

Coastguard were called to Cogden Beach to reports from a member of the public that their dog had just been swept into the sea during a walk.

Despite rescue efforts on Thursday, the dog remains lost at sea.

A spokesman for West Bay coastguard rescue team said: "Our heartfelt thoughts are with the dog's owner.

"We are currently in-between storm systems, but the sea state remains rough with large swells and powerful breaking waves.

"With Storm Dennis rapidly approaching, we implore everyone to keep themselves, their pets and their loved ones safe over the coming days."

The incident at Cogden comes after a bulldog was swept away after jumped into a river in Frampton.
