A bulldog has been swept away by a river - despite its owner's desperate attempt to save it.

The British bulldog, named Jay, slipped into the river in Frampton, near Dorchester, yesterday.

The owner tried to rescue the dog but the river was flowing too fast.

A search was made of the area, with help from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, and further towards Dorchester but Jay has not yet been located.
