Beaminster School was delighted to welcome Olympian Emily Diamond in to school to meet the students.

Emily is a British Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth medallist, winning a Gold medal in the 4 x 400m relay at the 2016 European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam, and a Bronze Olympic medal in the same event in the summer Olympics in Rio. She has also appeared on the BBC’s long-running quiz show A Question of Sport.

She visited Beaminster School to speak to students about the importance of nutrition, sports psychology, her training regime and the discipline and dedication it takes to perform at the very highest level. She also spoke about the set-backs she has had, and overcome, and the importance of believing in yourself and never giving up – she was once told that she just didn’t have what it takes to be an Olympic medallist

Emily spoke to all students in Years 7-9 during assembly, and then to GCSE PE students during the first lesson of the day, finishing with a short interview with two of the school newspaper’s Newshounds, Kai and Ruth.

Emily brought some of her medals and a selection of her kit with her for students to see, Bronze Olympic medals are surprisingly heavy.

The school would like to thank Emily for giving students such an inspiring talk, and Beaminster’s Chair of Governors, Mark Carter, for organising this special event.
