A MAJOR crackdown on motorists driving illegally has seen a large number of cars seized in west Dorset.

Dorset Police's No Excuse team has been targeting speeding drivers and those without tax, insurance and the correct licence.

On Sunday, two drivers were caught in the same day.

A 25-year-old woman, who had a young child in the car, was found to be driving in Bridport with only a provisional licence, according to police. Her car was taken away.

In a separate incident earlier in the day, a 43-year-old man had his car seized in the town when officers discovered he had no insurance.

He had to make alternative arrangements for the rest of his journey.

A third driver was caught in the space of two days after they were found driving without a licence on Monday.

Last month, a woman on the school run was stopped by police on the coast road for having no insurance. Initially, she tried to avoid officers but was stopped in Abbotsbury, where the blue Ford Focus she was driving was seized.

Police impounded a car on West Bay Road, Bridport, after it was discovered not be to taxed or insured and was registered as being off the road.

A spokesman for Bridport Police said: "If your vehicle is not properly taxed or insured then you risk having it taken off you."

"Please don't drive if you aren't all legal, driving licences and insurance are not optional, so please don't be naughty."
