SCORES of volunteers have got their hands dirty in Rhyl and Prestatyn to help the town on its way to become carbon neutral.

More than 70 pupils and tutors from Coleg Llandrillo, members of Clwyd Friends of the Earth, pupils and teachers from Ysgol Tir Morfa, members of North Wales Wildlife Trust and members of the public helped plant 1,200 trees.

They were helping staff from Denbighshire County Council’s Countryside Service and Keep Wales Tidy plant thousands of trees along the Cut as part of the Well Connected project to create a green corridor between the two towns.

Cllr Tony Thomas, the Council’s lead member for Housing and Communities, said: “I’d like to thank all the volunteers who helped at the planting sessions.

“These trees will help create green havens for residents and improve open spaces in the county as well as offsetting carbon emissions.”

The Council has planted 100,000 trees across the county in the last ten years.

A further planting session will take place on February 7 in Coed Y Morfa, Prestatyn, next to the playing field between 10am to 3pm.
