More than £10,000 has been raised in less than a month and support is pouring in for plans for a new indoor skate park.

Rob Ridge and Dominic Brown, the makers of the original Trick Factory skate park at St Michael’s Trading Estate that closed in 2016, are leading a project to bring 2020 Skate and Ride to Gore Cross Business Park as early as spring.

A Crowdfunder was set up last month with the aim to raise £25,000 to help with building supplies, insurance, rent, first aid training and bills, as well as the pair also putting in their own money.

Rob said: “We have past the £10,000 mark on crowdfunder and there are still lots of people pledging.

“We would like to thank everyone, including some local businesses, who have donated so far.

“We have had a lot of support and donations from some of the old park users and we are looking forward to reuniting, even though it has been a four-year gap.

“We are in the process of submitting a planning application and we have taken advice from The Front skate park in Weymouth.”

An auction of a vintage BMX frame raised £1,000 for the cause and a fundraising gig with The Skalatans will take place at Clocktower Music on Sunday, March 15 from 5pm.

There are a number of awards available for people pledging money, these include a skate party with music, an hour session, a BMX lesson, a car valeting voucher, skate sessions, a first to ride the park raffle, dinner for eight people, advertising, a skate board set up and much more.

The pair have also designed and made a 3D version of how the park could look and what ramps it could include.

Rob said: “We are able to show people what we are thinking of doing, it shows it works and it shows our further commitment.”
