A diesel powered heater sparked concerns after smoke was seen coming from a lorry on the A35.

Bridport firefighters were called to the Bridport bypass this morning to reports of a vehicle fire.

A passerby had seen smoke issuing from the cab of a lorry parked up in the lay-by and was concerned for the welfare of the driver inside.

On arrival, crews found the source of the smoke was from a diesel powered heater keeping the driver warm during his rest break.

All appliances were then stood down.

A spokesman for Bridport Fire Station said: "If you see smoke or fire which leaves you concerned or unsure if the source, don’t hesitate to call 999 and ask for the fire service. It’s always better safe than sorry."
