More girls are being encouraged to play football and ‘grow in confidence’.

Darren Turner, the football coach for the under 11 girls’ team in Bridport - which is currently children in years five and six - wants to encourage even more to play the ‘amazing game’.

He is also encouraging people to support the girls already playing football in the town, who are fundraising for new training tops and a day out at the end of the season.

Darren said: “Bridport Youth Football Club currently has three girls’ teams and we are looking to take on more girls and build our squad.

“They are also taking part in a sponsored football dribble on Saturday, February 8 at St Mary’s Playing Field. They are aiming to dribble or run 26 miles between them all to raise money for new training tops and if possible, a day out at the end of the season.

“As a coach and parent, I would like to try and get more girls into this amazing game and watch them grow in confidence, keep fit, team build and make new friends.”

The sponsored football dribble will start at 10.30am

They train at the Sir John Colfox School in the winter and Salway Ash in the summer on Tuesdays from 6pm to 7pm. Matches will take place at Salway Ash.
