EXTRA funding for North Wales Police has been welcomed by Clwyd West MP David Jones.
The force will receive an extra £10.4 million funding during the coming financial year, an increase of 6.7 per cent. It is already set to receive an additional 62 officers this year, with more to come in the future.
Overall police funding is due to increase by the biggest amount in a decade. This will see more money available to recruit, train and equip police officers, as well as investment in national priorities like tackling serious and organised crime, and counter-terrorism capabilities.
Mr Jones, said: “This is excellent news, and delivers the commitment made in during the general election to give the police the resources they need to fight crime and keep the streets and our communities safe. I am sure that it will be welcomed across North Wales.”
The amount of funding available to the policing system for 2020 to 2021 will increase by more than £1.1 billion, totalling £15.2 billion, if police and crime commissioners take full advantage of flexibility to set the police precept. This represents an almost 10 per cent increase on the core rant provided to forces last year, enabling the police to cut crime and deliver on the people’s priorities
