Stormy weather and rough seas earlier this month have brought the return of the sand ledge on a west Dorset beach, as well as damage to a beach jetty.
Storm Brendan battered the coast last week, leaving a steep ridge in Lyme Regis’ sandy beach.
Dorset Council engineers previously carried out works to re-level the beach when the ledge appeared in November. It was closed to the public until the works to level out the beach were completed.
The storm also damaged a stone beach jetty. Cllr Daryl Turner, Dorset councillor for the town, said he had first reported issues with the jetty to Dorset Council on December 5.
He said: “We sadly now face a major task with associated costs.
A spokesman for Dorset Council said: “We’ve been keeping an eye on beach levels and profiles and we do not intend to carry out any works at this time.
“However, if the beach volumes decrease much more or are a significant risk to public safety becomes evident, then we will re-profile the beaches as necessary.
“Regarding the jetty, we are in the process of organising repairs.”
