A WARNING has been issued after a man plunged into the sea from the Cobb in Lyme Regis.

Shortly afterwards a second man slipped on the iconic harbour wall and injured his back.

The incidents happened on Saturday.

Lyme Regis Coastguard was first called at 3.08pm to assist a man who had fallen off the high wall into the sea.

Two paddle boarders initially helped the man before the coastguards arrived.

He was then handed over to the ambulance service.

The coastguards were called again after another man fell from the Cobb shortly afterwards.

However, he collapsed onto the harbour wall and didn’t enter the water.

A spokesman for the coastguard said: “The first casualty was moved to the lifeboat station to receive further treatment for mild hypothermia.

“The ambulance was then diverted to assist the second casualty who was complaining of severe back pain and extreme cold.

“We carefully packaged and loaded the casualty into the waiting ambulance where after assessment he was transported to Dorset County Hospital.”

In a warning, coastguards said: “These two casualties slipped and fell on the high wall of the Cobb which is extremely slippery at this time of the year.

“Lyme Regis Coastguard would urge all visitors to the harbour and the Cobb to be very careful, mindful of the weather conditions and heed all safety advice.

“Remember for emergencies on the cliffs, beach, sea or tidal river, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
