Rail passengers on the Weymouth to London Waterloo line have been warned of disruption following a number of failures.

Lines were shut at Brockenhurst due to a points failure there and, despite lines now being reopened, disruption was expected to continue until about 1pm.

A set of points are the part of the track that can move, allowing the train to change direction and access different parts of the network.

UPDATE: Furthermore, there are further delays due to a signalling problem between Woking and Weymouth.

Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

A South Western Railway spokesman said: "Engineers worked on site and trains can now run normally. However, as the line was blocked for over two hours, services have been significantly delayed and we will be required to make interventions to manage the disruption.

"Due to the displacement of stock and crews there will be delays and cancellations until the end of service. Please check before you travel and allow extra time where possible.

"For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point.

"We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey."
