Residents were hit by power cuts yesterday evening.
More than 500 homes in and around Bridport were left without power shortly after 6.30pm.
Engineers had hoped to fix the issue by 8pm, at which time more than 200 were still waiting for power to return.
While some homes were left in darkness, many more experienced short, flickering power outages which were also reported in some areas of Lyme Regis.
Western Power Distribution says engineers were working on a high voltage fault and switching around the network to isolate the fault and restore supplies.
It said power may continue to cut out and turn back on while they do this and so recommended residents wait before turning back on any ‘sensitive’ equipment such as computers and TVs.
They had hoped to fix the problem by 8pm, but this was later estimated to take until 9pm.
