Work to stop landslides at West Bay may be paid for by the government, after an intervention by West Dorset MP Sir James Spicer.

About £500,000 is needed to drain the west cliff and load part of it with tons of earth.

Legal advice is being sought by the governors of the County Primary School in Bridport after four mobile classrooms had to be evacuated in strong winds.

The governors are hoping to find a way of getting the classrooms scrapped and the whole of the County Primary School rebuilt.

Lives are being threatened and buildings damaged by increasingly heavy traffic passing through Beaminster town centre.

The claim comes from Beaminster Society members, who are now seeking help from the county council and the Association of Small Historical Towns and Villages.

JANUARY 23, 1970

During the year, the two inshore lifeboats at Lyme Regis were launched on service calls on 24 occasions. Fourteen lives were saved and, on most cases, the boats were rescued too.

Fears are growing in Broadwindsor that a child might be killed while on its way to school. And with the mounting fears come feelings of anger and resentment. Anger at the lack of the 30mph speed limit outside the school and resentment at the fact the matter has been discussed for months without any definite conclusions.

The entrance to the school, which has 85 pupils, lies about 100 yards outside the speed restricted area.

A Bridport disc jockey found himself sharing drinks and conversation with John and Yoko Lennon.

Colin Grellis, who spins discs under the name of Tony Kaye, was invited to the world-famous couple’s table while he was working in a Danish night club as a DJ.

Before they left the club, the Lennon’s obliged Colin with their autograph which was written on a lager bottle that John produced for the DJ from Bridport.
