The Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis is celebrating a successful year in which it celebrated its 125th anniversary.

2019 was brought to a close with a party thanking all those who donated money as part of the theatre's 'adopt a year' fundraiser. Members of the public and local organisations picked a year from the art venue's history, often one which represented a significant event such as a birth or marriage, and made a donation of £125.

Donors received a selection of special gifts and are named on a plaque which was unveiled by theatre patron, Andrew Rattenbury. The ceremony took place in December and was attended by patrons, volunteers and theatre members.

Other notable events of 2019 included the launch of a new website in May, paid for by rockstar Ian Gillan from Deep Purple, as well as a community play and book launch with patron Mark Hix and Marielle Frostrup,

Ian McKellen also took to the stage for a special one man show in July.

Gabby Rabbitts, director at the Marine Theatre, commented: "We rely on the support of donors, volunteers and members, so thank you to all those who donated as part of 'adopt a year'. 2019 has been bonkers: highlights for me were Andy Rattenbury's play, the launch of our new website, and Ian McKellen's performance."

The venue is now preparing for a brand new year of theatre, music, dance and comedy. For details about future events, visit https://www.marinetheatre.com/
