AN AFTERNOON of entertainment from the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane will come to Dorchester on Sunday, February 23, at 2.30pm.

From 1702, the theatre was the home of vibrant and glittering performances of music, dance and acrobatics during the intervals of spoken plays. Olwen Foulkes is currently working on a PhD at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and will introduce the music and musicians featured during these interval concerts of the 18th century.

The afternoon’s programme will include fiery sonatas by Arcangelo Corelli and Giuseppe Sammartini alongside performances by lesser known musicians James Paisible, Matthew Locke and John Grano.

  • Olwen Foulkes: Indoor Fireworks: Entertainments from Drury Lane, Sunday, February 23, 2.30pm. It’s organised by Dorchester Arts and will be held at the Corn Exchange.

Tickets are £14 or £12 for concessions and members, available from the Dorchester Arts website or by contacting the box office.
