THE date has been confirmed for a mammoth cycle ride which crosses Dorset following a historic route.

Ride the Trafalgar Way is a 500km ride from Falmouth to the Admiralty, London and must be completed within 33 hours.

The ride closely follows a route taken in 1805 by Lieutenant John Richards Lapenotiere, the naval messenger who brought home news of the Battle of Trafalgar. It took him 38 hours.

In the modern era cyclists now ride their trusty steeds and aim to complete the route within 33 hours.

The Trafalgar Way passes Bridport, Dorchester and Blandford on its route from the westcountry to the capital.

The 2020 ride, sponsored by NFU Mutual Wessex, will take place over the weekend of June 27-28. As well as the 500km event there are also shorter rides. For more information including how to enter visit ridethetrafalgarway.com
