Shoppers and visitors are being given an early Christmas present with free parking throughout west Dorset.

Those visiting Lyme Regis during December can take advantage of parking for free on selected dates.

A spokesman for Lyme Regis Town Council said: “We’re pleased to be working in partnership with Dorset Council to provide free parking in Several Lyme Regis car parks for two weekends leading up to Christmas.

“To help support local traders this festive season, shoppers and visitors will be able to park for free in Woodmead, Holmbush, Broad Street and Cobb Gate car parks on December 14, 15, 21 and 22.

“We hope to encourage visitors to the town to shop, eat, drink and see Lyme’s wonderful Christmas lights.”

Bridport and Beaminster have also been working with Dorset Council to secure free parking.

In Beaminster, free parking is on offer at Beaminster Square and the long stay section of Yarn Barton every Thursday and Friday in December. And, as reported in last week's Bridport News, Bridport Town Council made the request for free parking to Dorset Council in a bid to boost the local economy.

The town council is hoping that free parking on Wednesdays and Saturdays in December will give a much-welcome boost to the area over the festive period.

Charges will be waived in short and long stay car parks in Bridport and West Bay – East Beach, East Street, Football Club, Hope Terrace, Plottingham, Quayside, Rope Walks, South Street, The Mound, West Bay Road, West Street and Wykes Court.
